Description

Hasbro and Avalon Hill are expanding the HeroQuest universe with *L’Appel de la Terreur*, the French version of the *Miniature Pack: Call of Dread*. This set brings together nine new monster miniatures designed to enhance games played using the HeroQuest system. The miniatures reimagine several iconic foes encountered during quests, featuring brand-new poses that add greater visual variety to the game board.

The pack includes nine different miniatures: a skeleton, an undead creature, a zombie, an Abomination, a goblin, an orc, a wizard, a Warrior of Terror and a gargoyle. Each model measures approximately 2.8 cm and is supplied unpainted, giving players the option to keep the original plastic colours or customise their miniatures with their own paint scheme.

The miniatures are colour-coded to make them easy to identify and feature the dark fantasy aesthetic characteristic of HeroQuest. This set is not a standalone narrative expansion: it contains no new quest booklet, maps or additional rules. Its primary aim is to provide new sculpts to represent the game’s creatures and adversaries in existing scenarios or player-created quests.

The Call of Terror therefore requires a HeroQuest game system to be played. The miniatures are advertised as compatible with HeroQuest First Light, the HeroQuest expansions, and the quests from the modern game system. They can also be kept as collectable miniatures regardless of whether they are used on the game board.

Background and setting of the range (Lore)

HeroQuest is a fantasy adventure game in which a group of heroes explore dungeons, battle monsters, discover treasures and complete various quests. In the classic system, the main adventurers are the Barbarian, the Dwarf, the Elf and the Sorcerer, whilst another player can take on the role of Zargon, master of the forces of evil and responsible for the creatures encountered in the dungeons.

Zargon rallies various Creatures of Terror under his banner to prevent the heroes from completing their missions. Goblins and orcs make up some of his most common troops, whilst zombies, skeletons and other undead haunt the tombs and underground passages. The Abominations pose a more monstrous threat, whilst the Warriors of Terror are heavily armed fighters in the service of the dark powers.

Gargoyles are amongst the game’s most imposing foes, whilst enemy sorcerers use various forms of magic to hinder the adventurers’ progress. The diversity of these creatures allows Zargon to create encounters that vary greatly from one quest to the next and contributes to the dungeon crawler atmosphere that characterises HeroQuest.

*The Call of Terror* draws precisely on this gallery of enemies by offering nine new miniatures. Rather than introducing a new campaign, the box set allows players to visually refresh Zargon’s forces and use alternative representations for certain monsters or specific adversaries during both official quests and player-created scenarios.
