Origin and background of the character
Hermione adopts him at the Magical Menagerie on Diagon Alley, where the animal had spent many months without finding an owner. Thanks to his Fleur-blood, Crookshanks immediately senses that something is amiss with Scabbers, Ron Weasley’s rat. From then on, he relentlessly chases him, trying to bite him, much to Ron’s dismay. This, in fact, causes serious tension and repeated arguments between Ron and Hermione throughout their third year at Hogwarts, before Peter Pettigrew’s true nature is unmasked by Sirius Black.
