HARRY POTTER - Sorting Hat - Light

This officially licensed Harry Potter Paladone decorative lamp depicts Hogwarts’ famous Sorting Hat in an original pop-up design. The hat rests on a base featuring two stacked books and can be lifted to reveal the light fitting underneath.

When the Sorting Hat is in the lowered position, the whole piece looks like a decorative object resting on the books. When lifted, a golden base appears and the lamp switches on, raising the hat and creating atmospheric lighting beneath its wide brim. When fully extended, the lamp stands approximately 40 cm tall.

The Sorting Hat features a fabric finish that replicates its aged and crinkled appearance, whilst the colourful, book-shaped base is a direct nod to the world of Hogwarts. This convertible design means the lamp can be used both as a decorative piece when switched off and as mood lighting in a bedroom, a library or a space dedicated to the Wizarding World.

Origin and lore of the object

The Sorting Hat is one of the most iconic objects at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At the start of every school year, it is used during the Sorting Ceremony to determine which of the four houses each new pupil will join: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

Endowed with the power of speech and capable of analysing the personality of the wearer, the Sorting Hat takes into account the pupil’s qualities, aptitudes and, at times, their wishes before publicly announcing its decision.

According to Hogwarts’ history, the hat once belonged to Godric Gryffindor. The school’s four founders passed on their knowledge to it so that it might continue to sort pupils long after their passing.

This Paladone lamp directly echoes the pleated, weathered silhouette of the Sorting Hat and utilises its wide brim to conceal a pop-up lighting mechanism, transforming this iconic Hogwarts artefact into a decorative light.
