Origin and background of the character
Pius Thicknesse is a senior official who initially worked at the Ministry of Magic. During the Second Wizarding War, he became a puppet entirely subservient to Lord Voldemort after being subjected to the Imperius Curse cast by Death Eater Corban Yaxley. Following the secret infiltration of the institution and the assassination of the incumbent Minister Rufus Scrimgeour, Thicknesse is placed by the forces of Evil at the head of the magical government. He officially held this position as a puppet leader from 1 August 1997 to 2 May 1998, when the regime collapsed during the tragic Battle of Hogwarts.
