This figurine from Banpresto’s Art Vignette collection depicts Godzilla as he appears in the 2016 film *Shin Godzilla*. Depicted in his fearsome fourth form, the kaiju is captured at the moment he emerges from the ocean and reaches dry land – a scene directly inspired by his appearance in the feature film.
The sculpture captures the particularly menacing appearance of this incarnation of Godzilla: deeply textured dark skin, reddish ridges visible across its body, small forelimbs, irregular dorsal plates and a long, massive tail. Its upright posture and slightly parted jaws reinforce the monster’s menacing appearance, whilst the numerous irregularities in its silhouette reflect the unstable biological evolution characteristic of Shin Godzilla.
The figurine stands on a sculpted base depicting the ocean’s surface. The waves surrounding its legs and tail give the impression that Godzilla has only just emerged from the water. This ‘Come Ashore Image Ver.’ presentation transforms the figurine into a veritable miniature scene and allows the Art Vignette range to prioritise a narrative composition rather than a simple static pose.

Character background and universe (Lore)
This version of Godzilla is based on *Shin Godzilla*, a Japanese film released in 2016 and directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. The feature film offers a radical reinterpretation of the famous kaiju: Godzilla does not have a fixed appearance, but rapidly evolves through several successive forms in order to adapt to his environment.
Its fourth form is the one most recognisable in the film. Far more imposing than its previous forms, it is characterised by heavily marked black skin, criss-crossed with red patches suggesting extreme internal heat, as well as an exceptionally long tail. This incarnation gives the monster an almost biological and uncontrollable quality, like an organism undergoing constant mutation.
In *Shin Godzilla*, the kaiju’s appearance triggers a major national crisis in Japan. Faced with a creature capable of evolving and developing new abilities in a very short space of time, the authorities must find a way to stop it whilst dealing with the human, political and military consequences of its advance. The fourth form thus becomes the iconic image of this modern and particularly unsettling interpretation of the King of the Monsters.
