Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

Anna and Elsa are the two sisters at the heart of *Frozen*, an animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios released in 2013. Since childhood, Elsa has had the power to create and control ice and snow. When she accidentally loses control of her powers and plunges the kingdom of Arendelle into a perpetual winter, she retreats far from the kingdom.

Determined to find her sister, Anna sets out in search of her with Kristoff, her reindeer Sven and, later, the snowman Olaf. Their sisterly bond is one of the story’s main themes and plays a vital role in resolving the events threatening Arendelle.

The story of the two sisters continues in Frozen 2, where Elsa seeks to understand the origin of her powers whilst Anna accompanies her beyond Arendelle. Disney portrays Elsa as a magical figure who is now fully in control of her abilities, whilst Anna remains deeply devoted to her family and to protecting the kingdom.
