This Kotobukiya model kit depicts Durga I from the GRANDE SCALE collection, a range that uses the CAD data from the Frame Arms Girl models to recreate them in a significantly larger scale. Once assembled, Durga I stands approximately 25 cm tall, compared to around 16.5 cm for the standard model. This increase in size better showcases her imposing knight’s armour, her numerous joints and the mechanical details characteristic of the character.
The design retains Durga I’s signature ‘armoured knight’ motif, with an angular silhouette that blends the appearance of a bishōjo heroine with a wealth of mechanical elements. The move to the GRANDE SCALE format also allows Kotobukiya to use more parts moulded directly in their respective colours, resulting in more precise colour separation straight from assembly. The translucent armour parts are made from transparent components, with mechanical details engraved on their inner surfaces.
Three faces with eyes and expressions pre-printed using pad printing are included: a neutral expression, a smile with one eye closed, and a screaming face. The hairstyle can also be altered: the armour fitted over the fringe can be removed to attach a ribbon, whilst a second fringe option allows Durga I to be displayed without her headgear. A sheet of decals provides additional eyes as well as the numerous gold markings featured on the armour.
Her main weapon, the large Hale-Rung spear, is naturally included in the kit. This can be used in its complete form or separated to form two distinct weapons: a short spear and a mace. The additional armour uses 5 mm connectors and can be rearranged into several configurations, whilst 5 mm to 3 mm adaptors ensure compatibility with numerous M.S.G accessories and other Kotobukiya model kits.
The articulation has been designed to make the most of the large scale. The torso and shoulders feature extendable mechanisms, whilst the hips utilise a sliding joint combined with internal joints at the thighs. The kit also includes five pairs of ball-jointed PVC hands, as well as large weapon-holding hands suitable for standard 1/6-scale figures. Kotobukiya also provides alternative joint parts for the thighs and hips to further expand the range of posing options.

Character background and lore
Frame Arms Girl is a spin-off series of Frame Arms, the original range of modular robots created by Kotobukiya. The concept involves reinterpreting the various Frame Arms mechas as bishōjo-style female characters, whilst retaining some of their armour, weapons and mechanical features. The range’s standardised connections also allow for the interchangeability of numerous parts and the use of Kotobukiya’s M.S.G accessories.
Durga I is directly derived from the Frame Arms Durga I designed by ToMo. The original mecha was transformed into a female character based on an illustration by E-ji Komatsu. Kotobukiya has defined its aesthetic around the theme of a knight in armour, with a particularly angular silhouette and a blend of heavy mechanical elements and character design. Durga I’s armour has also been designed to be interchangeable with that of Magatsuki, reinforcing the customisation aspect unique to Frame Arms Girl.
The GRANDE SCALE version is not a new narrative incarnation of Durga I. It transposes the original model into a much larger format, based on Kotobukiya’s CAD data. The height is now approximately 25 cm, with improved colour separation, joints adapted to the larger size and 5 mm connectors for the armour components. However, adaptors allow users to revert to the standard 3 mm size to ensure compatibility with the brand’s range of accessories.
This GRANDE SCALE Durga I therefore retains the ‘mechanical knight’ identity of the original model whilst offering a significantly more imposing presence, enhanced articulation and greater customisation options for fans of Frame Arms Girl model kits.
