Origin and character lore
In the reimagined universe of Hideaki Anno’s legendary saga, Rei Ayanami appears following the cataclysmic events of the Third Impact. Featured in the film *Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo*, she is assigned to pilot the Evangelion Mark.09 on behalf of the sinister organisation NERV. Devoid of the memories of the original Rei and acting in a purely mechanical manner, she blindly obeys orders until her interaction with Shinji Ikari and her discovery of civilian life within the rural setting of the survivors’ village begin to awaken a consciousness of her own. A quintessentially tragic figure exploring the themes of identity, cloning and nascent humanity, this character has become a timeless symbol of global pop culture. This Figurizma figurine celebrates all the duality and melancholic grace of this extraordinary pilot.
