Character background and universe (Lore)

Gotenks is the warrior born from the Fusion of Son Goten and Trunks, a technique taught to the two young Saiyans by Son Goku and subsequently perfected under Piccolo’s supervision. To achieve this transformation, the two fighters must precisely synchronise their movements and power levels during the famous Fusion Dance. The result combines their abilities into a significantly more powerful fighter, who is also known for his extreme self-confidence and penchant for extravagant attacks.

Gotenks first appears during the Majin Buu saga, when Earth’s warriors are searching for a way to defeat the fearsome Majin. After intensive training in the Room of Spirit and Time, Goten and Trunks push their fusion to the Super Saiyan 3 stage, a transformation previously mastered only by Son Goku. In this form, Gotenks possesses enough power to stand up to Super Buu and even seems, for a time, capable of defeating him.

However, this power comes at a cost: the Super Saiyan 3 form consumes a huge amount of energy and reduces the length of time Goten and Trunks can remain fused. Added to this is Gotenks’s flamboyant personality, as he often prefers to perform a series of spectacular moves rather than quickly finishing off his opponent. These characteristics make SS3 Gotenks one of the most recognisable and unconventional transformations in the Majin Buu saga.
