Origin and background of the transformation (Lore)
Son Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan represents one of the most iconic, dramatic and defining turning points in the history of shōnen manga. This event takes place on the dying planet Namek, at the climax of a titanic clash against the galactic tyrant Frieza. A helpless witness to the brutal execution of his best friend Krillin at the hands of the alien dictator, Goku is overwhelmed by pure, devastating and utterly uncontrollable rage. This extreme anger shatters his psychological barriers, unleashing the dormant genetic potential of his lineage of space warriors. His eyes turn teal, his aura blazes with a golden light and his hair stands on end, marking the birth of the Super Saiyan of the prophecy – a force for justice driven by pure fury, capable of surpassing all known powers in the universe.
