This Funko POP! Heroes No. 659 figurine depicts Absolute Superman, the reimagining of Kal-El from DC Comics’ Absolute Universe. Standing approximately 11.9 cm tall, it brings the character’s new design to life in Funko’s signature style, with a mid-flight pose supported by a transparent base. 

The standard version depicts Superman in his textured blue suit, with a red cape, a yellow and red ‘S’ emblem on his chest, and orange detailing at the cuffs and boots. His red eyes and black hair – which is longer than that of the classic Superman – reflect several distinctive elements of his appearance in *Absolute Superman*. The cape is spread out widely behind him to emphasise the sense of movement.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Absolute Superman is a new version of Kal-El created for DC Comics’ Absolute Universe. His series begins with *Absolute Superman* No. 1 on 6 November 2024, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Rafa Sandoval. DC summarises this incarnation by highlighting a fundamental difference from the traditional Superman: he grows up without the Fortress of Solitude, without an established family and without a real home.

In this continuity, Kal-El does not leave Krypton whilst still an infant. He spends part of his childhood there and experiences first-hand the inequalities of Kryptonian society. His parents, Jor-El and Lara, belong to the Labour Guild and attempt to warn their world of the impending catastrophe despite their low social standing. Kal-El thus retains personal memories of Krypton and his parents, unlike the classic version of the character.

After the destruction of Krypton, Kal-El finally arrives on Earth, in a rural area of Kansas. He discovers a world where certain forms of exploitation directly remind him of those on his home planet. In particular, he comes into conflict with the powerful Lazarus Corporation and its Peacemakers, gradually becoming a champion of the exploited and oppressed.

This incarnation therefore retains the fundamental idea of Superman as a protector, but sets it against a much harsher backdrop. DC presents the Absolute Universe as a reality where iconic heroes have origins comparable to those of their traditional versions, whilst being deprived of a large part of their usual resources. For Kal-El, this difference results in a more isolated Superman, more directly shaped by Krypton and grappling with a rage he must learn to control.

POP! Heroes No. 659 directly incorporates this new visual identity conceived for Absolute Superman, with his reimagined costume, long hair, red eyes and in-flight pose. The monochrome Chase version, meanwhile, offers an alternative interpretation of the same sculpture designed for collectors.
