Origin and character background (Lore)

Turbo Granny is one of the first major supernatural entities encountered in Dandadan, a manga created by Yukinobu Tatsu. She belongs to the yōkai category and is characterised by exceptional speed as well as a particularly aggressive and provocative temperament.

She crosses paths with Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, when he ventures into a tunnel reputed to be haunted in order to prove the existence of paranormal phenomena. This encounter sets off a series of events that profoundly upends his life and grants him supernatural abilities linked to Turbo Granny’s power.

After several confrontations, Turbo Granny takes on a much smaller and comical form, which contrasts sharply with her initial appearance. This transformation plays a major part in her popularity with fans and allows the character to retain a regular role in the story with a more humorous appearance.

Thanks to her explosive personality, her direct link to Okarun’s powers and her instantly recognisable design, Turbo Granny has become one of the most popular creatures in the Dandadan universe.
