Origin and character lore
In the world of Dandadan, Ken Takakura is a lonely, geeky teenager with no friends, who is bullied because of his unwavering belief in the existence of aliens and UFOs. Following his chance encounter with Momo Ayase, a schoolgirl who firmly believes in ghosts and spirits (entities which Ken initially does not believe in), the two teenagers set themselves the challenge of visiting haunted places and sites of alien sightings. It is during this expedition that Okarun’s life is turned upside down: he is attacked and cursed by the fearsome Turbo Granny (Turbo Baba). This spectral entity steals his private parts and unwittingly bestows upon him a powerful occult transformation. By drawing on this curse, Okarun can transform into a spiritual, ape-like creature endowed with supersonic speed and devastating brute strength. This figure celebrates the character’s iconic human form and the beginning of this endearing hero’s supernatural and zany adventures.
