Based on BAKI / Hanma Baki, this Banpresto figurine depicts Retsu Kaioh, a master of Chinese kenpō and one of the series’ most technically skilled fighters. Standing approximately 20 cm tall, this version, dubbed ‘Guruguru Roller’, recreates a particularly unusual sequence from his clash with Pickle, featuring a mechanism specially designed to replicate the frenetic succession of his punches.
Retsu is depicted bare-chested, showcasing his highly developed musculature, wearing loose-fitting dark trousers held up by a red belt and with his long black hair tied back. His face takes on a particularly intense expression, directly inspired by the fight scene from which this figurine is taken. The standout visual feature lies in his arms: these are depicted as flattened discs, creating a blurred effect intended to evoke their rotation at extremely high speed.
This figurine is not merely a sculpted piece: the arms feature a rotating mechanism at the shoulders and can be operated manually, allowing the ‘Guruguru Roller’ movement to be recreated once the piece is on display. This feature clearly sets this item apart from the usual static figurines in the Banpresto range.
Retsu Kaioh is one of the great masters of Chinese martial arts in the Baki universe. The anime’s official website describes him as a fighter bearing the prestigious title of Kaioh and as a true genius of Chinese kenpō, regarded as exceptional even within the context of its 4,000-year martial tradition.
The Guruguru Roller version refers directly to his clash with Pickle, the prehistoric man resurrected in the modern era. Faced with an opponent whose physical strength makes it extremely difficult to apply his conventional techniques, Retsu momentarily abandons strategy and finesse to unleash a frenzied barrage of punches. Banpresto transforms this scene into a deliberately exaggerated effect: his arms visually become two spinning discs, replicating the frenzied movement of the attack.
The clash with Pickle also marks a major turning point in his journey, as Retsu loses his right leg in the fight. Refusing, however, to give up the fight, he then continues his journey in the world of boxing to demonstrate the value of Chinese kenpō, before later facing Miyamoto Musashi.
