AZUMA MAKOTO - My Melody and Kuromi Series - Display 6 Fig.

Discover Azuma Makoto’s floral world combined with My Melody and Kuromi in this series of blind box figurines produced by Mighty Jaxx under licence from Sanrio. This display features six mystery boxes dedicated to the two characters, each reimagined through compositions inspired by gardening and different varieties of flowers.

Each figurine measures approximately 10 cm and combines the instantly recognisable aesthetic of My Melody or Kuromi with Azuma Makoto’s botanical art. The characters are depicted in pastel or more contrasting outfits, accompanied by gardening accessories and flowers integrated directly into their design.

The display contains 6 figurines, with no duplicates. A rare variant also exists within the collection, but Mighty Jaxx states that its inclusion in a display is not guaranteed. Each box remains a blind box: the identity of the figurine inside is only revealed upon opening.

Origin and background of the collection (Lore)

My Melody is one of Sanrio’s long-standing characters. Originally from the Mariland Forest, she is recognisable by her hood and her gentle nature. Sanrio notes in particular that she enjoys baking biscuits with her mother and sharing cakes with her friend Flat.

Kuromi has a personality that appears to be the polar opposite. With her black beanie adorned with a pink skull and her mischievous demeanour, she adopts a more rebellious style. Behind this image, however, Sanrio describes her as very feminine, with a particular passion for writing in her diary and reading romance novels.

This collection does more than simply bring the two characters together: it combines them with the work of Azuma Makoto, a Japanese floral artist known for transforming plants into true works of contemporary art.

Azuma Makoto runs the haute couture florist’s JARDINS des FLEURS in Tokyo and has been developing an artistic practice centred on flowers since 2005. His work involves, in particular, exploring the beauty of flowers in unusual settings, such as placing them underwater, in ice or even sending them into the stratosphere.

In this Mighty Jaxx series, this botanical approach is adapted to the Sanrio universe. The flowers do not simply serve as decoration around My Melody and Kuromi: they become an integral part of each figurine and are selected to match the characters’ visual identities.

My Melody’s soft pastel tones are thus contrasted with Kuromi’s bolder compositions, creating a miniature garden where each character has her own colours and varieties of flowers.
