Origin and background of the character
Astro Bot is the heroic and endearing little robot who serves as the modern mascot for the PlayStation universe, originally developed by Team ASOBI (SIE Japan Studio). First appearing in virtual reality tech demos, he went on to become the central protagonist of critically acclaimed platform games such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, before cementing his status in his own hugely successful eponymous adventure on PlayStation 5. As captain of a spaceship shaped like a PS5 console, Astro travels through a multitude of colourful galaxies to rescue his fellow Astro Bots scattered across the planets. Equipped with thrusters built into his feet and an array of innovative gadgets, this dynamic little character is full of nostalgic nods to the history of video games and embodies the sheer joy of technological exploration.
