Origin and background of the character
Published in 1951, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland follows the adventures of a curious young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in an absurd and magical world. This specific scene echoes the moment when Alice helps the playing cards paint the roses in the Queen of Hearts’ garden. If the Queen discovers that they were originally white, decapitation is guaranteed! This figurine captures this moment of tension tinged with humour and poetry.
